Spring Breakers (2012)
Grade: C+

When I first heard about Spring Breakers I put it on my “never watch in a hundred years” list along with other gems like One Direction: This Is Us and The Smurfs 2. Why would I want to watch a bunch of Disney Channel teen stars go on spring break and be “bad girls”? Then I heard the movie was nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival. Then after that some of my friends who love raunchy movies told me that they HATED it. This is when I knew there was something more to this movie, and that I ought to check it out. Click here for the full review.

The Master (2012)
Grade: B
The Master is a story of two men in post-WWII America. Freddie Quell (Joaquin Phoenix) is an alcoholic veteran who suffers from what is implied to be post-traumatic stress disorder, and is struggling mightily to adjust to civilian life. Lancaster Dodd (aka The Master or Master, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman) is a charismatic leader of the newly-formed philosophical movement called “The Cause”. The two men meet by chance on Lancaster’s yacht, where The Master takes a liking to Freddie and brings him into the movement. Click here for the full review.

Hugo (2011)

Special Feature
Just like that, another year is behind us! It’s strange to think that just a year ago we had no idea about The Tree of Life, Midnight in Paris, The Artist, or any of the other amazing movies that came out in 2011. What do we have to look forward to in 2012? Well luckily I’ve done some homework, so I have at least some idea of what’s in store. Click here to read the full article.
Grade: A

"Inglourious Basterds” follows two story lines: a revenge story of a young Jewish-French girl Shoshanna Dreyfus (Melanie Laurent), whose family was killed on orders of Hans Landa (Christopher Waltz), and that of a group of Jewish-Americans known as the ‘Basterds’, whose job it is to terrorize and kill Nazis. Both stories develop independently and converge on one explosive, history-changing night at a movie theater owned by Shoshanna. Click here for the full review...

Melancholia (2011)
Grade: A-

Melancholia tells the story about two sisters: Justine and Claire, and their mental instability. After an introduction of surreal, super-slow motion, mind-bogglingly beautiful shots, Part One: Justine begins.
