Immortals Review

Immortals, directed by Tarsem Singh, is a flat, uninteresting movie with little plot and not enough action to redeem itself.

The plot of the movie is simple and basic, and it is taken from the Greek myths of Theseus, the Titans, and others as well. It begins with a dream of an oracle who envisions a man unleashing the Titans. It seems as though a war is starting.

Then we meet the hero, Theseus. A son of a widow, Theseus is an impressive young man who resides on the outskirts of Greece. But as war approaches his small town, he and the rest of the villagers flee to escape. Theseus leaves and eventually returns only to discover his mother killed. After burying his mother, Theseus departs on a ship, and his adventures begin. However, the movie has little to no logical progression. Hardly anything is fully or clearly explained in the film.

Why did the war break out? Who knows?

Why didn't the gods help the people? Who knows?

And to be honest, who really cares? Every character is forgettable. None are relatable. Scenes that could have placed the characters in a moral dilemma - a situation that develops and deepens characters - are avoided. Additionally, the acting the movie wasn't terrible, but it certainly was not fantastic in any scene.

There are some good details in this movie; for example, the visuals are great. The lighting conveys the mood very well. Colors are very saturated, and they give it a unique look. Fight scenes are well choreographed. Yet none of these things can redeem this movie. I understand that bad stories can be decent movies due to their action, but this movie was simply boring.

Immortals is a confusing mess of a movie with a lack of direction. This officially is the worst movie I saw in 2011.

Daaaang who's that hot guy reviewin this piece of crap film? That's the real question.

Do you understand the difference between formula fiction and serious literature.? Meaning deeper than color.

Yes I do. I also realize this movie is not trying to be serious. It just fails at what it is trying to do.

I enjoyed it to a degree. I thought the fight scenes were very cool looking, and i liked the closing scene with all the people fighting in the air. It reminded me if a painting from the Renaissance.
Other than that the film was awful. Characters were generic and forgettable. Scenes that could have really made created an emotional response... Like his mother's death were flat and lifeless. I agree with your review Jared!
